Sildenafil

Sildenafil is an FDA-approved generic prescription medication used to manage erectile dysfunction. It requires sexual stimulation to work and does not cure ED. Do not take sildenafil with nitrates such as nitroglycerin or isosorbide, or with guanylate cyclase stimulators such as riociguat; the combination can cause a dangerous drop in blood pressure. Do not use sildenafil if sexual activity is inadvisable because of cardiovascular disease. Tell your provider if you have had a recent heart attack or stroke, unstable angina, severe heart failure, low or uncontrolled blood pressure, severe liver or kidney disease, NAION, retinal disease, or an allergy to sildenafil. Tell your provider about alpha-blockers, strong CYP3A4 inhibitors or inducers, other PDE5 inhibitors, and all medications and supplements. Common side effects include headache, flushing, nasal congestion, indigestion, dizziness, and temporary visual changes such as blue-tinted vision or light sensitivity. Seek emergency care for an erection lasting four hours or longer. Stop use and seek immediate evaluation for sudden vision or hearing loss. Avoid grapefruit and excessive alcohol.
