Combined oral contraceptives are prescription medicines. Do not use during pregnancy; if age 35 or older and smoking; with current/history of DVT, PE, stroke, coronary disease, severe or uncontrolled hypertension, migraine with aura, breast or estrogen-sensitive cancer, severe liver disease or liver tumors, unexplained uterine bleeding, or certain thrombogenic heart conditions. Drospirenone products require renal, adrenal, hepatic, potassium, and interacting-medication review. Risks include blood clots, pulmonary embolism, stroke, heart attack, hypertension, gallbladder problems, liver problems, mood changes, headache, nausea, breast tenderness, and breakthrough bleeding. Seek emergency care for chest pain, shortness of breath, coughing blood, severe headache, vision/speech change, one-sided weakness, or leg pain/swelling. Take exactly as labeled; missed-pill instructions vary. Use backup contraception when directed. These pills do not protect against STIs.
